In June 2021, Oxford Brookes Poetry Centre ran its first online course designed to help poets working towards their debut poetry pamphlet and the wider publication of their poems. This online reading is an exciting opportunity for those students to showcase their recent work in a fascinating range of styles and voices covering a wide variety of urgent subjects.
Join us to hear poems from: Julian Bishop, Karima Brooke, Edel Burke, Alexandra Corrin-Tachibana, Sam Henley Smith, Jacqueline Hutchinson, Eve Moriarty, Catherine Redford, and Moira Walsh.
Mary Jean Chan, one of the course tutors, will also be reading at the event. Mary Jean is the author of Flèche (Faber & Faber, 2019), which won the 2019 Costa Book Award for Poetry. She won the 2018 Geoffrey Dearmer Prize for the title poem ‘Flèche’ and was shortlisted for the Forward Prize for Best Single Poem in 2017 and 2018, receiving an Eric Gregory Award in 2019. Born and raised in Hong Kong, Mary Jean is Senior Lecturer in Creative Writing (Poetry) at Oxford Brookes University.
